PrEHeaL aims to advance precision environmental health by improving the characterization of the chemical exposome and elucidating the molecular mechanisms linking environmental exposures to health outcomes. Led by Dr. Noelia Ramírez, the team brings together ten researchers with complementary expertise in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Nutrition, Telecommunications, Biomedical Engineering, and Pediatrics. The group develops and applies comprehensive, data-driven analytical strategies to better understand real-world exposures, with a particular focus on indoor and outdoor air pollutants and their impacts during early life. This approach integrates advanced analytical chemistry, exposomics, wearable sensor technologies, and multi-omics to support risk assessment, prevention strategies, and clinical translation.
Noelia Ramírez González
1. Advanced analytical strategies for exposome characterization. Comprehensive assessment of environmental exposures during critical developmental windows using advanced analytical methodologies. This line of research focuses on improving the chemical characterization of indoor and outdoor pollutants in environmental and biological matrices to enable accurate individual-level exposure assessment.
2. Innovative technologies for personalized environmental monitoring. Development and validation of wearable devices, personal passive samplers, and integrated sensor platforms for real-time, longitudinal monitoring of environmental exposures. This approach enables continuous, individualized exposure assessment in real-world settings.
3. Multi-omics integration and mechanistic precision environmental health. Application of metabolomics and complementary omics approaches to identify molecular signatures of exposure, susceptibility, and primary biological effects. This line of research aims to elucidate the mechanistic pathways linking environmental exposures to disease risk and to identify biomarkers for precision prevention.
4. Environmental factors in pediatric respiratory diseases. Investigation of the role of environmental exposures in the onset, progression, and exacerbation of pediatric respiratory diseases, particularly asthma. This line of research translates exposome and biomarker data into clinically relevant knowledge to support risk stratification, prevention strategies, and improved patient management.
