Roger Martínez, a second-year student of Advertising Graphics at the School of Art and Design of the Tarragona Provincial Council, is the winner of the ‘Olympus Scholarship’ 2026. The scholarship has as its starting point the charity dinner that the Olympus Palace 4* Hotel in Salou holds annually and which this year benefits
the IRB CatSud for cardiology research.
Among the projects presented by students in the Professional Project Management module, Roger Martínez’s poster was unanimously selected in first place by the jury. The 21-year-old from Vallecas thus obtained a scholarship with a financial award of 500 euros and a full weekend stay for 2 people at the Olympus Palace 4* Hotel. The proposal put forward by Roger is focused on «this poster represents a collage of the territory, where there are elements linked to the world of cardiology, healthy food and everything that helps to have a strong heart. All of this has helped me to become aware of how important it is to be healthy», explained the winner.
Cardiology research at IRB CatSud
IRB CatSud has more than 40 research groups. One is the Translational and Clinical Cardiology Research Group of Tarragona, a group that carries out its activity at the Joan XXIII University Hospital of Tarragona and recipient of the funds raised at this year’s edition of the solidarity dinner at the Olympus Palace Hotel. Its mission is to research and innovate in the field of cardiovascular diseases to develop strategies that allow more personalized treatments and improve the prognosis of patients.
More specifically, this group studies how to identify and use molecules or genes that help to detect and better understand heart diseases. It also works on the evaluation of patient characteristics that can contribute to increasing the severity of different cardiovascular diseases (myocardial infarction, heart failure, sudden death, etc.), with the aim of improving their prognosis. It also analyzes why some people respond differently to certain medications and how to improve treatment strategies to make them more effective and safer. It also investigates techniques to treat coronary and valvular diseases in a minimally invasive way, correct arrhythmias and optimize the operation of pacemakers and defibrillators, among other lines of work.

The panoramic terrace of the Hotel Olympus Palace 4* hosted the formal ceremony for the ‘Olympus Scholarship’ award ceremony. The members of the jury, the team of the Hotel Olympus Palace 4* and the students, accompanied by friends and family, gathered to learn the final verdict. In addition to the winner, it was also revealed that the posters presented by Alba Pocurull and Andrea Hernández were the finalists ex aequo. Both of them won a one-night stay for 2 people at the Hotel Olympus Palace 4*. However, the hotel also rewarded the efforts of the other students by giving them a day at the SUMMIT for 2 people with a meal included during this summer.
The representative of the property of the Hotel Olympus, Gil Cristià, highlighted during his speech «the gratitude to the participating students for the work carried out and for their dedication. I also want to thank the management and teaching staff of the School of Art and Design of the Tarragona Provincial Council for their involvement and for the dedication of the jury.»
The Tarragona Provincial Council School of Art and Design emphasized that «this project has been quite an adventure, a process full of many emotions. A challenge that we have faced with shared enthusiasm from the very beginning. We have felt very welcomed and supported and we want to thank you,» emphasized Laura Casas, professor of the Professional Project Management module at the Tarragona Provincial Council School of Art and Design, accompanied by professors Itziar Solla, Silvia Iturria, Núria Anguren and Judith Guinovart, as well as Marcel Blázquez, director of the Tarragona Provincial Council School of Art and Design.
The students took home a reproduction of their proposal and enjoyed refreshments at the SUMMIT. The ‘Olympus Scholarship’ award ceremony was attended by Gil Cristià and José Miguel Vilchez, representatives of the ownership of the Hotel Olympus Palace 4 ; Joel Segura, director of the Hotel Olympus Palace 4 ; Marcel Blázquez, director of the School of Art and Design of the Tarragona Provincial Council; Laura Casas, Itziar Solla, Silvia Iturria, Núria Anguren and Judith Guinovart, professors at the School of Art and Design of the Tarragona Provincial Council; Pau Brull and Esther Fernández, representing the Rotary Club Tarragona; Joan Vendrell, director of the CatSud Biomedical Research Institute; and Maira Isaura Rojas, winner of the 2024 Olympus Scholarship.
The 2026 charity dinner will be held at the Olympus Palace 4* Hotel on Thursday, October 1 at 7 p.m. All aid will go entirely to research into the prevention of cardiovascular diseases at the CatSud Biomedical Research Institute and the Joan XXIII Hospital in Tarragona.
